Texas is known worldwide for its many large, accessible lakes and all of the potential outdoor recreation opportunities that can be found on and around them. This year, we’re reviewing four top Texas Lakes and their 4th of July Celebrations-Cedar Creek Lake near East Texas, Lake Texoma spread across the state lines of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma, Lake Travis in Central Texas near Austin and Lake Lewisville north of Dallas.
Cedar Creek Lake-Gateway to East Texas
The fast-growing Cedar Creek lakeside community of Gun Barrel City will be hosting a three-day July Fest Celebration from July 5th through 7th. The festival will include carnival rides, an annual dual-city Softball Competition and a music Concert-in-the Park with fireworks on July 7th at the Gun Barrel City Amphitheater. Also, if you’re near Cedar Creek Lake on the 4th, check out the legendary Seven Points VFD Fireworks! They are coming up on their 23 Annual firework display July 4th and this year will have live entertainment from Cactus Moon Band. The music starts on stage at 7pm and the fireworks begin around 9pm. Also a small train will be running for the kiddos to ride, so come out and have a lot of fun if your in the area.
Lake Travis-‘Crown Jewel’ of Central Texas Lakes
Near Austin, Lake Travis is 64 miles long, has over 270 miles of shoreline and hundreds of access points. The lake is famous for its outdoor recreation activities.
Two notable July 4th events are taking place at this year’s Lake Travis celebration. The Starnes Island fireworks display will be held on Tuesday July 3rd. Starnes Island is located offshore from the VIP Marina and Beachside Billy’s. This Lake Travis fireworks event has been successfully attended for many years and this year’s sponsor, Volente Beach Resort promises to host one of the best ever! The show begins at 8:30pm and can be enjoyed by boat or from the many hilltops around the Volente area or on-site at the Volente Beach Resort.
Located along the shores of Lake Travis, the town of Lago Vista will host a full day of July 4th events including a parade, 5k run, Champaign dinner and a festival with cotton candy and ice cream for the kids, food trucks and a dunk tank. The event will be held at the Bar K Park in Lago Vista. For the latest Lake Travis Fishing Guide Map, click here!
Lake Texoma-10th Largest US Lake
Lake Texoma is located on the Red River between North Central Texas and Southern Oklahoma. About six million visitors per year enjoy the ‘Texoma’ region due to the area’s size as well as its location near the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro.
This year, Lake Texoma’s Highport Marina will host two fireworks events and both are expected to be huge and well attended. The first is Wednesday July 4th followed by the second on Saturday July 7th. Both displays begin at 8:30pm.
And, if you’re looking for something different for this year’s 4th, consider taking a Fireworks Dinner Cruise aboard Fastrac’s Island Girl yacht. The cruise leaves from the Lighthouse Marina Charter Dock 6:30 and cruises over toward the Highport Marina where the boat anchors offshore to watch their beautiful fireworks show. Passengers return back to the Lighthouse Marina by 11:00pm. For a copy of the latest Lake Texoma fishing map, click here!
Lake Lewisville-Everyone’s Texas ‘Party Lake’
Located a few miles north of Dallas, Lake Lewisville’s 4th of July area celebrations have become famous. And, based on the planning going into this year’s celebration, 2018 will prove to be at least on par if not the best!
The town of Lake Cities, located near Lake Lewisville will be hosting their Lake Cities 4th of July event. The day begins with a big parade followed by food, contests, vendors and music. The day ends at dusk with one of the largest, most dazzling fireworks displays in the area. The event location will be at Lake Dallas City Park.
Liberty by the Lake, hosted by The Colony, Texas, will also take place on the 4th. The festival will start with a 5k and 10k run followed by a parade and festival events throughout the day. Some of the events include a Dog Show, Science Fair, Watermelon Eating Contest, a stunt show and live music. The festival and fireworks display will be held at Stuart Creek Park at Lake Lewisville. In closing, as we approach another July 4th celebration, make sure if you’ve brought your Best Dog Friend (BBF) along, that you and he or she are prepared for the loud fireworks display and noise that comes with it.
Things can get loud as the sun sets and this can mean unnecessary anxiety for your BDF…and you. With a little advance planning, both you and ‘Rover’ can have a great adventure together this 4th and still enjoy all the celebrations and bang-sparkle-boom! that are a signature of Texas lakes.
Just like people, for many reasons, dogs can react differently and sometimes profoundly to loud, unfamiliar sounds and bright lights nearby. These sources can include heavy highway traffic (as in on the way to the lake!), large thunderstorms and late-night fireworks displays…all potential sources of anxiety for your BDF at the lake. But for some, avoiding a costly trip to the vet to pick up some prescription sedatives may be a preferred route to take; especially if you’re rushing around at the last minute to get that full lake day started. So, we’ve put together a short Fireworks Anxiety Tips list HERE for how to help make your furry friend as comfortable as possible while you and yours enjoy the bright lights, loud sounds and patriotic celebrations!
